Indian Institute of Social Welfare & Business Management – India’s first management institute is established by University of Calcutta on Apr 25, 1953, with Dr. B. C. Roy the then Chief Minister of West Bengal as its President.

The Institute, for the first time in the country, introduces a Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Business Management with affiliation of University of Calcutta. Introduction of the Business Management Programme was on the basis of recommendation of a committee constituted by Govt. of India and headed by Sir Jehangir Gandhy. Selection of the Institute as a Centre for the course in Business Management was made by AICTE.
