University of Calcutta Affiliated

The Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), Kolkata was established through a resolution adopted by the Syndicate of the University of Calcutta on April 25, 1953.

It was the culmination of the joint initiative taken by the University of Calcutta, the Government of West Bengal, the Government of India and the captains of industry to set up, for the first time, a management education Institute in India, a concept alien to many in the educational fraternity at that time.

Since 1958, the Institute has been run by a Board of Governors which includes, among others, the Vice Chancellor and the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Finance), University of Calcutta, Principal Secretary, Department of Education, Government of West Bengal, representatives from all Chambers of Commerce, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and the All India Council of Technical Education as members. The Government of West Bengal, through annual grants-in-aid, meets the deficits.
