Degree Program

M. Phil – 2 Yrs.

  • Program Duration: 2 years
  • Award: M. Phil. in Management (University of Calcutta)

Program Objective:

At present, a large number of Institutes in the State are offering a Post Graduate degree in Management. As per the AICTE norms, the teacher-student ratio for such programs should be 7:60. However, in most institutes there is a dearth of MBA teachers, both in terms of numbers and in terms of desired qualifications. There is a pressing shortage of quality faculty in Management.

To address this challenge, there is always a need for a Program to develop and train MBA faculty.

IISWBM aims to fulfill this requirement of Management Schools through its M.Phil. Program.

The world of Management is extremely dynamic. Continuous study and research in this M. Phil. Program is designed to meet this requirement of pressing forward the frontiers of knowledge and dissemination of updated information in different areas of Management research.

Such a course gives MBA students an option to continue with academics after completion of their course instead of joining the corporate sector by default.

The M. Phil. Program aims to contribute towards the growing body of knowledge in Management, particularly in the Indian context.

The Program has been designed to provide an interdisciplinary approach to research. Water-tight compartments between different disciplines can be broken down through this Program, leading to a cross-fertilization of ideas which can enrich Management research and teaching.

The Program aims to create individuals who are equipped with a high level of research capability and experience for government, industry and management institutes.

Graduates of the M. Phil. program will have a thorough understanding of the principles of business theory and its applications in various fields, along with the ability to think systematically about, and apply quantitative methods to, business problems.

They will have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to begin working independently on their Ph.D. dissertations.

Research findings for the M. Phil. degree may be extended to Ph.D. thesis by the candidate, as M. Phil degree is a prerequisite for admission to the Ph.D. degree. Moreover, a candidate may not pursue both M. Phil and Ph.D. courses simultaneously.
