Selection shall be made through the two-stage process prescribed in the Regulations: qualification in UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/SET/GATE/GPAT or other national level examination (in a subject matching the discipline of the Department concerned), followed by an interview before the Departmental Committee. NET Category-1 (JRF) candidates are assessed by interview, NET Category-2 and Catergory-3 and equivalent candidates are assessed on the basis of 70% weightage to the qualifying examination score and 30% to the interview.
Foreign nationals are exempt from the entrance test and are considered primarily on the basis of their research proposal, subject to minimum eligibility and an equivalence certificate issued by AIU/UGC, in terms of the Regulations and the relevant CSR notification of the University.
Admission is subject to the availability of seats, the supervisor-wise vacancy position, and the reservation policy of the Government of West Bengal.
