The Public Systems Management program started in 1993 as an AICTE recognised two-year full time diploma course with specialisation in Energy, Environment, Healthcare and Hospital and Transportation and Logistics Management. On the footstep of this diploma program in. 2009 a new program Master in Public Systems Management (MPSM) started as a two-year full time degree course of the University of Calcutta. In 2015.the MPSM course was renamed as Master in Business Management Public Systems (MBA-PS).
The Environment Management course will lead to enhance understanding of environmental problems and ways to evaluate and manage the environmental impacts of an organisation’s product/service or infrastructure development. It aims to satisfy an industrial and public sector demand for science and engineering qualified environmental management personnel for tackling environment issues in sustainable and cost-effective manner.
The minimum qualification for admission to the Course is a Bachelor's Degree (in 10+2+3 system) with Honours in Science/Economics/ Business Administration or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Technology/Law or its equivalent from any University. Master degree students in the above disciplines can also apply.
All graduates must have a degree from AICTE/UGC approved engineering institutes/ colleges and should have at least 50% marks in total.
The applicants for the admission to the MBA-PS with specialisation in Environmental Management are required to take CAT/ MAT/ CMAT/ JEMAT/ GATE/ GMAT/ATMA. The candidates short listed on the basis of cut-off-marks in the above selection tests would be required to appear for a Group Discussion and Personal Interview at IISWBM, Kolkata. The final selection of candidates will be strictly on the basis of merit.

Big 4s in consulting, E-Commerce warehouses, E-Waste, Industries (chemical, pharmaceutical, thermal power, textile, fertilizer, construction, renewable/green energy, etc.), Pollution Control Boards, Municipal Corporations, Environmental consultants, Non-Governmental organizations, Banks, Research & Development organizations, Chemical laboratories, etc. in various aspects such as evaluation of environmental compliance, EIA, ESG, Environmental health and safety measures (EHS), sustainable governance issues, and waste management practices in solid, bio-medical, e-waste, demolition waste, etc.
Some of the partners in progress include Adani, Amazon, Alstom, ERM, EY India, EY-GDS, EKI Energy (Enking International), Jupiter Wagons, Lloyds Technology Centre, NEPRA by NEST, Re Sustainability, Transven, Parekh Logistics, PwC, Rashmi Group, S&P Global, TERI, etc.
Summer internships are also conducted in various companies/ organizations as a part of the course curriculum all over India.
The completed year of the batch 22-24 saw 92% of eligible students placed with an average CTC of 6.34 LPA and highest CTC of 7.50 LPA. The 23-25 batch has seen high profile recruiters like EY-GDS, S&P Global recruiting our Environment Management students. Companies are still visiting for recruitment.
